On January 21st, Five Tumbleweeds members made the trek to Tucson to attend the Chuck Naugle memorial sale.  900 miles round-trip was a good time for swapping Studebaker tales and solving all of the world's problems.  It was a memorable trip to an amazing event.  This truly is Studebaker heaven.

Chuck's family and friends did an amazing job organizing and conducting the sale.  Prices were, well... smile-worthy and Chuck's collection was mind boggling.  Though this was like a frantic treasure hunt, there was no pushing and shoving...Studebaker people are too polite for that.   In fact, complete strangers were helping each other find what they were looking for.  Two of my best finds were pointed out to me by fellow enthusiasts.  This was camaraderie at it's best...and I think Chuck would be pleased.

Perhaps the best part was being surrounded in all directions by Studebakers.  Most of the vehicles are beyond restoration.  Many have given selflessly so that other Studebakers could live on... and they will likely soon go to the crusher.

One truck that will see a new life is the rare Transtar tanker below... it's headed to a good home in California.

Thank you Pat, and the rest of Chuck's family and good friends for sponsoring this event.  In my 41 years as a SDC member, this is the most fun I've ever had.

Beep Ball

The Lions Club Beep Ball was one of our 2016 charities.  Pictured is the presentation of our check by Tom Barker.

Here are the pictures we took in Mesquite showing Tom presenting the check.  They were thrilled to receive the help.  This is the only Blind League in Nevada.  The ages of the players are 25-75 and male and female.

The game is set up to have a first and third base equipped with beepers.  The ball also is a little large than a standard softball with a beeper.

When the all is hit the beeper is set off randomly at either of the bases, this indicates which base the batter will run to.  Their are sighted spotters in the field which tell the fielder who is to get the ball.

The players are a range from totally blind to some sight but considered legally blind so everyone is required to wear a blind fold.

The games are played against sighted players who are required to wear blind folds.  The most recent game they played was RTC's Road Runners.  The next game scheduled is against the UNLV women's softball team on Tue. March 28th at 3PM at the UNLV softball field.  The team is always looking for teams to play against if anyone is interested.
